The first Jīng [荊] range, from Mount Jǐng [景] to Mount Qíngǔ [琴鼓], comprises twenty-three mountains and extends 2,890 li. Its gods all have bird bodies and human faces. Their rites require a cock offered in prayer and buried, a patterned jade tablet, and rice as the sacrificial grain. Mount Jiāo [驕] is a chief mountain; its rite presents wine and the lesser sacrifice in prayer and burial, with a jade disk hung with the animal offering. From the English edition of Mountains & Seas.
