The first northern range, from Mount Dānhú [單狐] to Mount Dī [隄], comprises twenty-five mountains and extends 5,490 li. Its gods all have human faces and snake bodies. Their rites require the burial of a cock and a pig, together with a fine Guī [珪] jade tablet; no sacrificial grain is offered. The people north of these mountains all eat their food raw, without fire. From the English edition of Mountains & Seas. Open the reader for the Chinese editions and translator’s notes.
