The first Dòngtíng [洞庭] range, from Mount Piānyù [篇遇] to Mount Róngyú [榮余], comprises a hundred thousand mountains and extends 2,800 li. Its gods all have bird bodies and dragon heads. Their rites require a cock and a female pig, their blood let, with rice as the sacrificial grain. Mounts Fūfū [夫夫], Jígōng [即公], Yáo [堯], and Yángdì [陽帝] are all chief mountains; their rites lay out and bury the offerings, using wine in prayer, the lesser animal sacrifice, and one fine jade hung with the animals. Mounts Dòngtíng [洞庭] and Róngyú [榮余] are divine mountains; their rites likewise lay out and bury the offerings, with wine and the full animal sacrifice, fifteen jade tablets and disks suspended, and adornment in five colours. From the English edition of Mountains & Seas.
