The first Jīng [荊] range, from Mount Yìwàng [翼望] to Mount Jǐ [几], comprises forty-eight mountains and extends 3,732 li. Its gods all have pig bodies and human heads. Their rites require a cock offered in prayer, a jade tablet buried, and the finest of the five grains. Mount Hé [禾] is an imperial mountain: its rite requires the full animal sacrifice, presented and buried with the animals inverted, together with a jade disk; the cattle are not fixed in number or kind. Mounts Dǔ [堵] and Yù [玉] are chief mountains. Their sacrifices are all inverted, using the lesser animal offering, with fine jade suspended. From the English edition of Mountains & Seas.
