The first Kǔ [苦] range, from Mount Xiūyú [休輿] to Mount Dàguī [大騩], comprises nineteen mountains and extends 1,184 li. Sixteen of its gods have pig bodies and human faces. Their rites require a goat of unblemished colouring and a patterned jade hung as an offering and buried. Mounts Kǔ [苦], Shàoshì [少室], and Tàishì [太室] are all chief mountains; their rites require the full three-animal sacrifice and fine jade hung as an offering. Their gods all have human faces and three heads. The remaining gods have pig bodies and human faces. From the English edition of Mountains & Seas.
