A further 70 li east stands Mount Bànshí [半石]. Above grows a plant that puts forth an ear as it grows, more than a zhang high, with red leaves and yellow blossoms but no fruit. Its name is Jiā Róng [嘉榮]; taking it protects against thunderbolts. The Láixū [來需] River rises on the southern slope and flows west into the Yī [伊]. In it are many Lún Yú [鯩], like crucian carp with black markings; eating them prevents sleep. The Hé [合] River rises on the northern slope and flows north into the Luò [洛]. In it are many Téng Yú [鰧], like mandarin fish, dwelling in Kuí [逵], with blue-green markings and red tails. Eating them prevents abscesses and treats draining sores. From the English edition of Mountains & Seas. Open the reader for the Chinese editions and translator’s notes.
