A further ten li east stands Mount Qīngyào [青要], the High God's secret capital. There are many Jià [駕] birds. Southward lies Shànzhǔ [墠渚], where Yǔ [禹]'s father underwent transformation; there are many Pú Lèi and Pú Lú. The spirit Wǔ Luó [武羅] governs it, with a human face, leopard markings, a slender waist, and white teeth, wearing metal rings through her ears. Her voice resembles ringing jade. This mountain favours women. The Zhěn [畛] River rises here and flows north into the Hé [河]. There is a bird called Yāo [鴢], like a duck, with a green body, vermilion eyes, and red tail; eating it favours childbearing. There is a plant like Jiān [葌], with a square stem, yellow blossoms, red fruit, and a root like Chinese lovage. Its name is Xún Cǎo [荀草]; taking it beautifies the complexion. From the English edition of Mountains & Seas. Open the reader for the Chinese editions and translator’s notes.
