A further 200 li north stands Mount Dānxūn [丹熏]. Above grow many trees of heaven and cypresses; its plants include garlic chives and Chinese onions, and there is much red mineral pigment. The Xūn [熏] River rises here and flows west into the Táng [棠]. There is a beast like a mouse, with a hare's head and an elk's body, whose voice resembles a barking dog. It flies by means of its tail and is called Ěr Shǔ [耳鼠]. Eating it prevents abdominal distension and wards off every poison. From the English edition of Mountains & Seas.
