A further 280 li west stands Mt. Zhāng É [章莪], without plants or trees, but rich in fine blue-green jade. Its forms are exceedingly strange. There is a beast like a red Bào, with five tails and one horn, whose voice resembles striking stone. Its name is Zhēng [猙]. There is a bird like a crane, with one leg, a blue-green body, red markings, and a white beak. Its name is Bì Fāng [畢方], and it cries its own name. Where it appears, there is an uncanny fire. From the English edition of Mountains & Seas. Open the reader for the Chinese editions and translator’s notes.
